Of all the pathologies of the liver among Russians, the most common is obesity. Maria Prashnova, a gastroenterologist, hepatologist, associate professor at St. Petersburg State University, head of the EXPERT clinic, told socialbites.ca about this.

“The global problem of modern humanity is fatty liver. It occurs in both non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and alcoholic liver disease. In developed countries, including Russia, about 25% of the population suffers from lifestyle and diet-related liver pathologies. “Interestingly, due to the economic rise of China, the proportion of residents with NAFLD there has also risen to the level of Europe and the United States,” he said.

Modern medicine allows you to fight infectious diseases affecting the liver, cure hepatitis C and prevent hepatitis B and D through vaccination.

“As for the most serious liver problems, they are mostly caused by a combination of several factors, such as viral hepatitis and regular alcohol consumption, even in small doses,” Prashnova added.
