Psychologists at Zhejiang University of Science and Technology have discovered that beautiful women have more power in the family. Study published magazine Boundaries in Psychology.
The authors analyzed data from the biannual Chinese Family Panel Study. The dataset included the responses of 6,728 participants to questions such as who makes the decisions in the family, who is responsible for finances, income level, self-esteem, and relationships with other people. The researchers also evaluated the appearance of the respondents.
The results showed that only 15% of the women surveyed made important family decisions. As physical attractiveness indicators increase, the share of women who make decisions within the family also increases. There was no decision maker in the family in the group of women with the lowest attractiveness. There were 21% of women in the group who were rated attractive as average.
Further analysis showed that women who scored higher in attractiveness also had higher incomes, better relationships, and higher self-esteem.
