The background in which a person lives can affect their mental and somatic health. For example, people living on the ground floor are more prone to diseases of the pulmonary system and reduced immunity, while people living on the upper floors are more prone to anxiety disorders, headaches, and imbalance in blood pressure and pulse. Yulia Kovalenko, a therapist at the Medical On clinic in Novosibirsk, told socialbites.ca about this.

According to the expert, the danger to life on the lower floors – on the first and second floors – lies in nearby basements and, as a result, fungus and mold. The accumulation of exhaust gases from the highway or the car engines that heat up at the entrances, as well as the dust and fumes from the asphalt in the heat can cause damage.

“Such exposures are extremely dangerous. The thing is that our body is not able to cope with such aggressive agents without harming health, exceeding the physiological capabilities of detoxification systems,” warned the therapist.

He noted that in this way, carbon monoxide, aldehydes, sulfur dioxide, hydrocarbons, heavy metals and benzapyrenes inevitably enter the respiratory tract of those living on the lower floors, settle on the skin, are absorbed into the hair and clothes, and remain in the shoes.

“All this threatens with diseases of the pulmonary system, chronic diseases of the ENT organs and “allergy” of the body, for example, atopic dermatitis, vasomotor rhinitis and bronchial asthma. Also, living on the lower floors often leads to reduced immunity, leading to frequent long-term respiratory infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, and prolonged asthenia – weakness and lethargy,” explained Yulia Kovalenko.

According to him, the upper floors – the seventh floor and above – pose a danger mainly due to industrial smoke – exhaust and electromagnetic radiation from enterprises.

Extremely high floors – the twenty-fifth and above – can harm a person, such as the characteristics of the air conditioning system, namely the dry air and the changing air composition, the inability to open the windows for natural ventilation. It is also dangerous to live on extremely high floors due to the high level of vibrations – low frequency infrasonic vibrations, atmospheric pressure drops and loads during high-speed lifting in an elevator.

“From these factors, panic attacks, sleep disorders and insomnia, anxiety disorders, headaches, upper respiratory tract diseases and as a result susceptibility to respiratory tract infections can be expected. “Also, living on high floors threatens to deteriorate the tone of the great vessels and heart, causing an imbalance in blood pressure and heart rate, as well as abdominal pain.”

The doctor also advised to choose the third to seventh floors for living – they will be optimal for health.
