Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense said it has detected Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) planes and ships in the area of the island. This was reported on the department’s website.
According to the military, 25 aircraft and three PLA ships approached the island. It was stated that 19 J-10 multirole fighters (“Jian-10”) belonging to the PLA entered the air defense identification zone (AD) of the island from the southwest.
The Defense Ministry said in a statement that Taiwan’s armed forces are “monitoring the situation” and that the air force, navy and ground-based anti-aircraft missile systems are on high alert.

The Taiwan question has been open since 1949, when the communist People’s Republic of China was proclaimed on the mainland and the Kuomintang party, which previously ruled the country, fled to Taiwan. Beijing insists on the “one China principle” in Taiwan, in which it is impossible to recognize both the PRC and the Republic of China at the same time. The situation in the region has escalated due to the visits of American delegations to Taiwan in 2022.
