Sber’s self-driving cars traveled 3.5 million kilometers in 2022, three times more than a year ago, the bank’s press service reported.

Andrey Belevtsev, CTO Senior Vice President, Head of the Technology block at Sberbank, said that the development of unmanned vehicle technology is one of the priorities of the company.

“We started our pen trials with trucks as well as cars. And we see great hope in that. Russia is a very large and vast country and cargo transportation is an important strategic direction for us.”

Sber also plans to develop small drones. According to Andrey Belevtsev, several thousand people have already driven the cars of SberAvtoTech, the developer of Sber’s unmanned and smart cars, including limited mode on public roads when the driver insures the car.

At the end of December 2022, the government introduced a new experimental legal regime (EPR) for the operation of unmanned cars and trucks in cities and suburbs of 38 regions of Russia.
