England and Wales raise the legal age of marriage to 18

In England and Wales, a law raising the minimum age for marriage from 16 to 18 went into effect on 27 February. The initiative is designed to protect young girls from forced marriage, after a press release area UK government.

The statement also states that the minimum age for marriage with parental leave in Scotland and Northern Ireland is still 16.
