Vapers will face the same health problems as smokers in the future, but diseases will develop faster. Marine Gambaryan, head of the Center for Tobacco Consumption Prevention and Control of the National Medical Research Center for Treatment and Preventive Medicine of the Russian Ministry of Health, informed socialbites.ca about this.
“Based on existing research, it can be said that chronic damage to the body will develop more quickly and aggressively than smoking. Yes, e-cigarette vapor, for example, does not contain tar, but there are many other substances that can harm the body. Ultimately, electronic cigarettes, like smoking, lead to atherosclerosis, intravascular inflammation, thrombosis, and the development of diseases mediated by these conditions, including heart attacks and strokes. “In some cases, five years is enough for this, but it usually takes more time,” he said.
Gambaryan added that animal studies have shown that regular exposure to steam causes irreversible DNA damage in lung, heart, bladder cells and increases the risk of cancer. There are studies that link electronic cigarettes with impotence.
“More accurate data can be obtained if a whole generation of people who quit e-cigarettes grows up. But I hope it doesn’t come to this point and the problem of electronic cigarettes will be solved sooner,” he said.
