All for a handful of likes. A new case of reckless driving in Istanbul Canary Islands. A woman climbs on the hood of a car and the driver distributes the video and saves and uploads it and brags about it on social networks.

The incidents occurred in Gran Canaria in the early hours of Sunday, February 26, and the video went viral after being shared on different social networks and instant messaging apps.

This National Police and the Civil Guard launched an investigation to shed light on the incident and find the perpetrators of this reckless driving.

What is the penalty for reckless driving?

Administrative reckless driving:

Offense of reckless driving:

  • It is not an administrative offense like the previous ones, it is already a criminal offense.

  • For this reason, the penalty can vary from 6 months to 2 years in prison and from 1 year to 6 years with withdrawal of permission.

  • Example: Crossing a pedestrian crossing at 100 km/h, forcing the pedestrian to run or jump to avoid being run over.

Aggravated Reckless Driving:

  • It’s easy to go to jail with this behavior.

  • Penalties include 2 to 5 years imprisonment, 12 to 24 months fine and 6 to 10 years license revocation.

  • Example: Absolute contempt and indifference for the lives of others.
