In the field of building strong teams, the importance of networking (creating useful business contacts) has increased significantly over the past year, according to 15% of Russians surveyed by the organizer of the Team Awards. At the same time, almost 65% believe that making business contacts is beneficial. This is especially true for experienced professionals: according to data, managers and senior experts are 2 times more likely to use networking opportunities than line workers (12.8% vs 24.3%).

Despite this, only a third manage to establish business contacts. According to the Team Awards survey, the main reason for not networking is a lack of self-confidence. More than 32% of Russians responded in this way. The second most common reason for refusing to establish a business relationship was not knowing where and how to organize this process (25.9%), and the third was fear of appearing intrusive in the meeting and dialogue process (11%).
In addition to professional activities (15.4%), Russians often establish business contacts through acquaintances (37.1%). Social networks (20.7%) and dining and recreational facilities come second as “places” for networking: restaurants, bars, clubs (20%). Respondents’ responses also included training and professional development activities (12.9%) and working meetings with clients and partners (12.1%).
Within the scope of the survey, it was revealed for what purposes the Russians applied for network assistance. Therefore, most often this tool is used to find a job (16.9%). About 11% of Russians use established business contacts to exchange experiences and resolve complex business tasks and conflicts. Almost the same number of Russians (10.4%) go to networking meetings just because it’s “in vogue” today.
