According to the publication, the incident occurred on February 19 in Arizona. U.S. Navy spokesperson Kara Handley told the broadcast there was “an accident during a free fall training jump.”
He also refused to explain the cause of the incident, arguing that the investigation had not yet been completed.
Rear Admiral Keith Davids, head of Naval Special Operations Command, described the late Ernst as an “exceptional comrade” who “selflessly mentored his subordinates”.
The publication states that in the past 14 months, this is the fourth death during parachuting in the US military.
