United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres said at the emergency special session of the UN General Assembly on Ukraine that the tactical use of nuclear weapons is unacceptable. It has been reported RIA News.

The representative of the organization noted that the conflict “inflates” regional instability and fuels global tensions and divisions. Military conflicts distract attention and resources from other crises and pressing global issues.

“Meanwhile, we have heard of indirect threats to use nuclear weapons. The so-called tactical use of nuclear weapons is absolutely unacceptable. “It’s time to step back from the cliff,” said the Secretary-General.

The 11th Extraordinary General Assembly, convened after the start of the special military operation, resumed duty on February 21, upon the request of the Western countries.

Belarus at the UN suggested The West should refrain from supplying weapons to Ukraine. A special session of the UN General Assembly is scheduled for February 22 to consider a draft anti-Russia resolution on “the principles underlying a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace in Ukraine”.

The Belarusian delegation proposed two changes to the document. The first amendment, in particular, proposes to exclude from the text the requirement that the Russian Federation immediately, completely and unconditionally withdraw all its troops from the territory of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. At the same time, it was proposed to fulfill the “call for a cessation of hostilities.”
