The Canadian army captured Chinese reconnaissance buoys in Arctic waters. It has been reported Globe and Mail.
It was noted that the incident occurred in the autumn of 2022, and the buoys were returned to China.
Retired Lieutenant General Michael Day told the publication that the Chinese buoys were likely used to monitor the movement of US nuclear submarines in the Arctic and to map the seafloor and ice thickness.
Day said Beijing monitors shipping through northern waters, which are becoming more navigable as a result of climate change.
