Sergei Krikalev, executive director of manned programs at state company Roscosmos, said that the option to place Russian cosmonauts on the Crew Dragon from the faulty Soyuz MS-22 was considered risky, and therefore the company rejected the US proposal. It has been reported DEA News.

Krikalev noted that the option proposed by American experts is theoretically feasible, but in practice risks for the crew have been identified. The decision to disband the crew was made in accordance with risk minimization principles.

He also said that putting crews aboard the Crew Dragon was a “trivial” task, as the changing weight balance had to be calculated and new risk factors for the crew had to be taken into account.

Previously reportedRussian cosmonauts Sergei Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin and American astronaut Francisco Rubio will return to Earth in September 2023 with the Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft.
