In an interview with socialbites.ca, deputy director for scientific studies of the Federal Center for Scientific Food Systems named after him, he said that the amount of iodine contained in sea salt does not solve any problems with iodine deficiency. VMGorbatov RAS, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Anastasia Semenova.
“In sea salt, the normal iodine content is not more than 0.7 mg per kg. Nothing, ”Semenova explained.
At the same time, according to Semenova, eating special iodized salt is of preventive importance for some parts of Russia far from the sea. And the iodine content in it is many times higher – 40 mg per kg.
But Professor Semenova recommends eating other iodinated foods (bread, eggs), since iodine is more easily absorbed by the body than them.
“It is best to iodize food with organic forms of iodine, such as iodized proteins, or by adding ingredients with a high natural iodine content, such as algae. In organic form, iodine is better absorbed,” explains Semenova.
