Axiom Space plans to send the first special module to the ISS by 2025. Then three more fit for autonomous existence will dock with it, then leave the ISS during decommissioning and create the first private space station. The assembly is scheduled to be completed by 2028.
The first of these modules is being produced at the Thales Alenia Space factory in Italy. Lopez-Alegria hasn’t explained exactly what is shown in the photo, but the tapered portions resemble docking knots at the ends of the module. A series of large rings can be both a power set of the module body and a temporary structure to aid in its fabrication.
