Anton Orlov, director of the Institute for Contemporary Policy Studies, suggested limiting the media’s right to disseminate information about the health status of public figures. The corresponding letter was sent to Maksut Shadayev, head of the Ministry of Digital Development. RT.

Orlov recalled that federal legislation, including the Constitution of Russia, contains provisions on the inviolability of personal life, the right of citizens to have personal, family and medical secrets.

At the same time, when famous people – politicians, actors, athletes – enter medical institutions, the media often publish data on the health of these citizens and the details of medical treatment.

Orlov noted that the basic law of Russia guarantees freedom of expression and the right of the public to access information, but in this case we are talking about the inviolability of the personal lives of celebrities. The specialist said that finding information about the disease and treatment by others may cause additional psychological and physical harm to the patient.

In his letter, Orlov called for a ban on the media from distributing medical secret data, regardless of where the information came from.
