British pharmaceutical giant Glaxo has been hiding the dangers of its stomach ulcer and heartburn drug Zantac for over 40 years.
Agency Bloomberg found that the manufacturer had known about this side effect since 1978. This is due to the active substance of the drug ranitidine. When taken as a drug, it releases the potent carcinogen N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA).
The company hid the results of these studies and did not recall the drug from the shelves of pharmacies.
The dangers of ranitidine became widely known in 2019. Medicines are being recalled all over the world.
Some pharmacists claim that an increased risk of cancer while taking Zantac has not been proven.
