Scientists from the University of Oxford discovered whether the type of carbohydrates consumed affects the state of the cardiovascular system. Study published magazine BMC medicine.
Previous studies have shown that the amount of carbohydrates consumed does not affect the state of the cardiovascular system, but its quality. Scientists have divided carbohydrates into fibrous, free and non-free sugars. The foods you eat, such as juices and some smoothies, do not contain free sugars in their cells.
Researchers analyzed data from more than 100,000 people who talked about their diets. During the study period, it was determined that 8.5 thousand people had cardiovascular disease.
As it turned out, greater intake of free sugars from foods such as sugary drinks, juices, and desserts was associated with an increased risk of all diseases. At the same time, getting five more grams of fiber per day was associated with a reduced risk.
