Novosibirsk State Technical University (NSTU) has developed an online tracking system for the bee hive “PcheloBYTE”, NSTU told socialbites.ca about it.

The system consists of a software and hardware complex — a device installed in the hive and an application for the apiary owner’s smartphone. The device picks up and monitors swarm sounds, identifying what’s going on inside the hive. Under certain conditions, a notification is sent to the owner about what happened to the bees.

Thus, the beekeeper can even remotely control the onset of swarms and the formation of new colonies and take the necessary precautions.

In the future, the young scientists plan to obtain a patent, and then put a batch of devices into pilot production.

ancient scientists establishedthat the lifespan of honey bees has decreased by 50% in the last 50 years. Now it’s about 18 days versus 34. Also, the reduction in life expectancy affected beekeeping: loss rates between colonies and reduction in honey production were about 33%.
