Kozhaev said that the ninth grader arrived at school on February 13 at 07:40 (4:40 Moscow time) with a backpack. As it turned out later, he brought with him a kitchen axe, a knife, and a homemade mask.
The teenager went up to the second floor, went to the bathroom, donned a white mask, and rushed into the hallway with the ax in his hand, where he attacked a tenth grader. The unsub’s first victim received two blows to the head with an axe. Then the teenager attacked the tenth grader, hitting his forearm and head twice with the butt of the axe. He then struck a third person, a ninth grader, on the head with the butt of an axe.
According to Kozhaev, high school students and teachers who came to the rescue when they saw what had happened detained the attacker. At the moment, two injured schoolchildren are in the hospital of the city hospital, their condition is stable. The third child received medical care without being hospitalized.
Kozhaev confirmed that the young man who was attacked has mental health problems, has been receiving inpatient treatment at the Republican Scientific and Applied Mental Health Center in Alma-Ata since October 2022, where he was discharged in November with the recommendation to continue his education.
