Bioethicist Grebenshchikova explains when a doctor can treat a patient without their consent

The patient may sign a refusal to treat, but sometimes the doctor may act without his consent – especially when the patient is unable to give it. “The patient has the right to refuse treatment by signing a refusal document. But in some cases, he is not asked if he is, for example, extremely drunk or in a coma. In other cases, doctors will convince.”

Also, a doctor can treat a child without parental consent.

“Then it will most likely be proven through the court that the doctor acted in the child’s best interest. However, according to our law, a child from the age of 15 can make a decision for himself. However, explanations to parents often work well. But you need to make time for them, ”Grebenshchikova added.
