February 9 Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed To Bratislava with a request to transfer to Kiev the supersonic MiG-29 fighters withdrawn from the Slovak Air Force. The Ukrainian leader met with Slovakian Acting Prime Minister Eduard Heger on the sidelines of an emergency EU summit. In response, Heger said that Slovakia will do its best to comply with this request.

It was previously reported that Slovakia withdrew a MiG-29 fleet from the national air force in August 2022 that they wanted to replace with American F-16s. In January of this year, Yaroslav Nagy, head of the Slovak Ministry of Defense declarationthat the country plans to send these fighters to Ukraine.
