In Yakutia, they fear too thick ice will cause severe flooding, reports DEA News With reference to the All-Russian Research Institute of Civil Defense and Emergencies (VNII GOChS).

“The maximum ice thickness of about 140 centimeters was recorded in the water bodies of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia). “This is 10-55 centimeters higher than last year and could lead to complexity of the flood situation during the spring flood transition,” he said.

At the same time, in the European part of Russia, the average thickness of ice in water bodies is from 7 to 75 centimeters – such indicators are dangerous for both vehicles and pedestrians.
