On the eve of Kyiv, the monument to the Soviet test pilot Valery Chkalov was dismantled.
Earlier, Maxim Buzhansky, deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the Servant of the People party, opposed the demolition of the monument to General Nikolai Vatutin.
Buzhansky noted that the monument could be destroyed, but the memory of the Soviet troops liberating Kiev cannot be cancelled. An event in history cannot be changed. He also stressed that the monument is beautiful and regretted that it is now impossible to go and see it because the government quarter of the city is closed.
