According to the UN, the total damage done to the global economy by various types of cyberattacks is estimated to be trillions of dollars for several consecutive years, with this expected to reach 10 trillion dollars by 2025. These figures were announced by Andrey Krutskikh, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for International Cooperation in the Field of Information Security, on the website of the Infoforum-2023 national information security forum, which started on February 7.
In the session titled “International information security is the problem of the day”, experts discussed new cyber security problems and current cyber threats, shared their views on countermeasures and brought up the issue of national digital sovereignty.
Andrey Krutskikh said, “According to different accounting categories, between 100 thousand and 1 million hostile cyber attacks are carried out in Russia annually,” and emphasized that a total of about 25 million cyber attacks were carried out on Russia in the year of the World Cup in Russia. Information about the country’s infrastructure.
According to Krutskikh, most of the cyberattacks against Russia originate from the United States.
Sergey Boyko, head of the Department of Information Security Issues in the Office of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, referred to the so-called United States when speaking of ways to realize the “global cyber domination ambitions” of the United States. One of them stated that Russia does not support the “Declaration on the Future of the Internet”.
“In fact, this document reinforces the discriminatory model of using the world wide web. “The declared approach to internet governance based on the participation of all interested parties is only aimed at creating the illusion of involving other states in this process.”
In fact, according to the expert, the signatories de facto transferred their sovereign rights to own the national information infrastructure to Washington.
“To manage domain names and IP addresses entrusted with the control function over the global network, ICANN Corporation is practically entirely dependent on the US government,” Boyko added.
The director of the .ru and .rf national domains coordination center spoke about Russian initiatives in the field of cybersecurity and digital literacy. In particular, he talked about the Digital Economy program, noting that it includes not only measures to protect Internet resources from external attacks, but also educational work among the public.
