Roscosmos and ISS partners took measures to ensure the safety of the crew of the malfunctioning Soyuz MS-22 spacecraft should an emergency occur on the station. It has been reported telegraph channel state companies.
As noted on Roscosmos, the International Space Station and its systems are operating normally, but in the event of an accident, the crew will need an emergency evacuation to Earth prior to the arrival of the Soyuz MS-23.
“It has been decided to temporarily relocate Cosmonaut Francisco Rubio from Soyuz MS-22 to the Crew Dragon spacecraft (work will be carried out on January 17-18),” the statement said.
It has been noted that if an emergency evacuation is required, Rubio will return to the planet in Crew Dragon.
The state company stated that Russian cosmonauts would later return to Earth with a malfunctioning cooling system on their Soyuz MS-22. They explained that it would be safer for two astronauts to land on Soyuz MS-22 instead of three, as it would lower the temperature and reduce the humidity.
Roscosmos added that once the Soyuz MS-23 arrives at the station, the seats of all three cosmonauts, including Rubio, will be transferred to this ship.
Yuri Borisov, ex-president of Roscosmos knowledgeableIt was announced that the Soyuz MS-22, whose radiator was damaged on December 15, will return to Earth in unmanned mode without a crew. Cosmonauts Sergei Prokopiev, Dmitry Petelin and Francisco Rubio will return to Earth aboard the Soyuz MS-23 spacecraft, which will launch in unmanned mode to the ISS on February 20.
