Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia intend to require NATO to place an ammunition reserve on their territory. This was expressed by the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense after a meeting in Tallinn of the defense ministers of the Baltic states. TASS.
At the meeting, the defense ministers of the three countries stressed the importance of further strengthening NATO’s presence in the region and strengthening the forward deployed forces on the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance, the Lithuanian defense ministry said in a statement.
“The Baltic states consider it necessary to place a preliminary reserve of ammunition on their territory,” said the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense.
The Baltic states plan to raise this issue at the NATO summit to be held in Vilnius in July 2023. They emphasized that at the upcoming summit, the issues of improving defense plans and strengthening air defense systems will also be discussed. In addition, they hope to change the mandate of the air police combat mission, which assumes that they can participate in hostilities and integrate into host countries’ defense plans in the event of a crisis.
