On the Ukrainian Dnieper they plan to dismantle the monument to Vasily Margelov, the creator of the Soviet airborne troops. This was reported by the Ukrainian edition of “Strana.ua”, with reference to the mayor of Dnipro, Boris Filatov.
According to Filatov, they will offer to take the monument to the paratroopers of the Dnieper. It was founded in 2000 on their initiative. The monument was installed on the Dnieper embankment with the money of citizens and sponsors.
Margelov was a native of the city and the first commander of the airborne troops in the Soviet Union. It is in his honor that this branch of the army is called “Uncle Vasya’s troops.”
