The case of 42-year-old Japanese Tetsuya Yamagami, who killed former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in July last year, has been referred to the prosecution amid additional suspicion that he violated arms trafficking law. It has been reported Kyodo News.
After Yamagami was arrested, he was sent for examination, during which he underwent a psychiatric examination to determine his legal capacity. The review procedure will end on January 10, after which the prosecution is expected to charge the accused with murder and violating the arms circulation law. This must happen before 13 January, when the detention period ends.
Formerly the Japanese Prosecutor’s Office decided to blame the murderer of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe after a psychiatric examination.
Abe was killed on July 8 after an assassination attempt was made on him. The attacker turned out to be Yamagami, who served in the Japanese Navy. The attacker suspected that Abe was linked to the religious organization “Unification Church”, which, according to Yamagami, caused the devastation of his family – Yamagami’s mother had made regular donations to the organization.
