According to the Rocky Mountain Institute, a sustainability organization, 12.7% of all asthma cases in children in the United States are associated with gas stove use. They talked about it in a magazine article. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.
The researchers compared the 2019 census data with the results of a meta-analysis of 41 previous studies that examined asthma risks in children in homes with gas stoves, currently in about one-third of American homes. A similar study with similar results has been done previously in Australia.
The American Gas Association questioned the validity of the results and described the study as a “propaganda-based math exercise.”
However, the issue of the dangers of using a gas stove has been repeatedly raised in previous studies: experts have noted that combustion products, including nitrogen oxides, can accumulate in poorly ventilated rooms and damage the respiratory tract and blood vessels.
