Dog owners should not take animals to fireworks, even if it does not cause panic in pets. About this socialbites.ca said veterinary therapist Igor Rubel and neurologist-veterinarian Lyudmila Konikova.
Dog owners often take them with them for long walks outside, including on New Year’s Eve. At the same time, on New Year’s Eve and the following days, people set off fireworks that could harm the dog physically or psychologically.
“Even if you have already taken the dog to the fireworks and he is not scared, you risk inflicting psychological trauma to the animal. For example, if a firework is detonated somewhere near it or thrown at it, it can injure the animal both mentally and physically. People often come to the reception with problems that arise after fireworks. Sometimes the dog even refuses to walk or is afraid of any sound, ”said Konikova.
Psychological trauma can turn physical – a frightened animal may run without understanding the road, get hit by a car, stumble on a sharp branch, or hit a fence.
Even if the dog is absolutely stress-resistant and used to explosions, the advice not to get a dog remains valid. Pets are attracted to fast-moving and luminous objects and try to catch them. “A common cause of dispatches is fireworks or injuries from fireworks. Sometimes animals rush to catch the bright fireworks exploding between their teeth. On New Year’s Eve, you should definitely put a dog on a leash and an address book, and preferably a muzzle, ”said Rubel.
