This average electricity price will drop this Thursday, January 4th for regulated rate customers tied to the wholesale market, Up to 116.56 Euros per megawatt hour (MWh), representing a 3.7% reduction compared to Wednesday’s 121 Euro/MWh.
At the auction, the average price of light in the so-called ‘pool’ wholesale market this Thursday was set at 109.19 euro/MWh. The minimum price of 61.97 euros will be given between 04:00 and 05:00, while the maximum price will be recorded between 19:00 and 20:00 and will be 177.98 euros.
To this ‘pool’ price is added compensation to gas companies, which must be paid by consumers benefiting from the measure.Consumers of the regulated tariff (PVPC) or those with a free market but an indexed tariff will get 7.37 euros/MWh for this Thursday.
26% less than applying the Iberian exception
In the absence of an ‘Iberian exception’ mechanism that limits the price of gas for electricity generation, Electricity will cost on average 147.44 euros/MWh in Spain, which is around 31 euros/MWh more than compensation for customers in the regulated tariff, so that they will pay 21% less on average.
The ‘Iberian mechanism’, which came into force on 15 June, limits the price of gas for electricity generation to an average of 48.8 euros per MWh for a period of twelve months, thus, it covers the next winter period when energy prices are more expensive.
