Orientalist, Islamic scholar and political scientist Alexei Malashenko died at the age of 72. This was announced by his colleague, the political scientist Arkady Dubnov. telegraph channel.

“Aleksey Malashenko is dead,” the political scientist said, describing the death of a colleague as “sudden”.

He also noted that Malashenko was “a brilliant scholar, an outstanding Islamic scholar, a good person, just a friend.”

Malashenko was born on February 2, 1951 in Moscow, in 1995 he received a PhD in history from the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS). Over the years, he taught at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation and at the Higher School of Economics. Also, in 1999-2001, the political scientist was a leading researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

During his career, he wrote and edited 18 books in Russian, English, French and Arabic: “Islam in Central Asia”, “Time in the South” (with Dmitry Trenin), “Islamic Alternative and the Islamist Project”, “Islam for Russia”, ” My Islam”.
