According to statistics, the New Year is the time of food and alcohol poisoning, often the fault is improper storage of food and drink, toxicologist Mikhail Kutushov said in an interview with socialbites.ca.
“They usually prepare for the feast in advance and much more than just eating and drinking. Surpluses are stored not in the refrigerator, but on the veranda or in the rooms. Also, often different products are stored in one place. This leads to stomach problems,” Kutushov explained.
To him, all poisoning from stale food looks the same: nausea, vomiting, weakness and diarrhea. In severe cases, convulsions and loss of consciousness are possible.
“New Year’s is the typical blast of canned food poisoning. Let me remind you that botulism can be deadly. A swollen lid, turbidity in the jar, bubbles and even more mold are a sign that canned food should be thrown away, ” Kutushov said.
