Maria Dyuzheva, gastroenterologist and nutritionist at the SberHealth medical online service, said in a conversation with socialbites.ca that the combination of certain products with alcohol can cause poisoning.

“Alcohol increases appetite. All this can cause more serious problems such as heaviness in the abdomen, poisoning and sometimes acute pancreatitis. Drinking alcohol thickens the secret in the pancreatic ducts, and fatty foods require more pancreatic enzymes. This can lead to the inability of the pancreas to cope with the load – acute pancreatitis will develop. Combining alcohol, especially strong alcohol, with fatty foods is a bad decision,” says Dyuzheva.

Also, alcohol brings extra calories and extra pounds after a feast. Alcohol slows metabolism, water is retained, and food calories are stored in “fat.”
