According to preliminary data, residents of the Kamchatka Territory, Altai Territory and Moscow, as well as a foreign citizen tried to cross the Russian border with several birds. The animal species was determined to be gyrfalcon. It is listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation. It was stated that the suspects were trying to enter one of the Middle Eastern countries.
Criminal proceedings were brought against the detainees within the scope of the article. 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Smuggling of especially valuable wild animals and aquatic biological resources.” It was decided to detain a citizen of a foreign state.
The FSB noted that gyrfalcons have been successfully released into their natural habitats.
