Published in a magazine Hormones and Behaviors Studies have shown that high testosterone levels combined with high levels of narcissism are indicative of generosity. The study was led by scientists from the Jagiellonian University in Poland.
Researchers conducted an experiment involving 151 men. All participants underwent a saliva test to determine their testosterone levels and were also tested for narcissism. After that, they joined the game: they had to distribute the points among themselves and among the stranger.
“According to our results, higher testosterone levels were associated with less generosity in men who were less narcissistic and therefore more trusting, less sarcastic, more generous and less selfish. And vice versa: narcissistic men with high testosterone levels were much more generous,” the scientists said. .
Typically, high levels of narcissism and testosterone are associated with competitive, antisocial behavior, scientists say. However, the results show the opposite. In the future, the researchers plan to continue studying the effects of testosterone on human behavior.
