Russian Armed Forces Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces Commander Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov expressed the opinion that the USA hinders the functioning of the Biological Weapons Convention (BTWC) because it supports the interests of big pharmaceutical companies. He said this during Information.
According to the general, in the early 1990s, within the framework of the BTWC, Russia mutually agreed to open non-military laboratories for the US and British authorities. Pursuant to these agreements, a group of experts from the Russian Federation inspected Pfizer’s businesses and inspection notices were sent two days in advance.
Kirillov pointed out that such visits received an extremely negative reaction from US pharmaceutical companies. Its representatives said such controls endanger business interests and intellectual property. In this regard, the General said that all other attempts to carry out the checks were blocked by the US government.
The head of the RKhBZ associations added that in the interests of the largest US pharmaceutical companies, legally and ethically controversial research is transferred to the territory of third countries.
