1026 prisoners

“As a result of the successful offensive actions of the Russian armed forces and police units of the Donetsk People’s Republic, in the city of Mariupol, on the site of the metallurgical plant named after Ilyich, 1,026 Ukrainian soldiers of the 36th Marine Brigade voluntarily laid down their weapons and surrendered,” he said.

He announced that among those who surrendered were 162 officers, as well as 47 female soldiers. In addition, 151 injured Ukrainian soldiers received primary medical care at the scene and were then sent to the Mariupol city hospital.

300 injured

Prior to that, the correspondent of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Alexander Sladkov reported on the capture of the Ukrainian army on the Telegram channel. He wrote that he “observed the process” as the sailors surrendered to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the DPR Ministry of State Security.

According to the reporter, there are “300 injured, 90 unable to act independently” among the prisoners.

“There may be more than 800 healthy people. If everything goes according to plan, the defense organized by the Ukrainian Armed Forces at the Ilyich Iron and Steel Works will fall,” Sladkov said.

He also posted a few photos from the scene.

“Come out with the white flag”

Soon, the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, also published on the Telegram channel information about the surrender of the Ukrainians.

“More than a thousand marines of the Ukrainian Armed Forces surrendered in Mariupol today. Among them are hundreds of injured. This is the right choice,” he wrote.

According to him, “Ukrainian groups are falling apart one after another”, the military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “do not know what to do with the wounded, do not know where to go and what to do next.” The leader of Chechnya believes that Ukraine “resistance is useless and there is practically no fighting force left”.

“Only separate small groups are operating, these groups are for some reason afraid to show the Russian troops with the white flag. don’t be afraid. Think about relatives, the wounded, your own and other people’s lives, how a stray bullet can bring tragedy to the house, ”called Kadyrov.

“There are currently about two hundred wounded in the bowels of Azovstal who cannot receive medical care,” the report says. Kadyrov believes that “it would be better for them and everyone else to end this meaningless conflict and return to their families.”

“Your step today is a conscious choice to avoid unnecessary and senseless bloodshed. I appeal to those who are still trapped in the basements and tunnels of the factory: You know we treat the prisoners like human beings. Get out,” wrote the head of Chechnya.

Battles for Mariupol

Battles for Mariupol have been going on since the beginning of the Russian military operation in Ukraine. On March 7, DPR forces reported that they had crossed the city limits. It was stated by the Russian Ministry of Defense that Russian troops besieged the city on March 2 and completely blocked it on March 11. On the Russian side, Chechen special forces participate in battles.

The fighting continues mainly in the Azovstal region, where, according to the information of the LPR people’s militia, there are about three and a half thousand military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On April 11, Eduard Basurin, a representative of the DPR people’s militia, said that in his opinion there was no point in attacking the underground fortifications of the Azovstal plant.

“There are underground floors, so it makes no sense to take this object by storm. Because you can put a large number of your soldiers, and the enemy does not suffer losses in this way. Therefore, at the moment it is necessary to deal with the blocking of this facility, find all the exits and entrances – in principle, this can be done, ”said Basurin On Channel One.

Konstantin Ivashchenko, the new mayor of the city, appointed on April 7 by the head of the DPR, Denis Pushilin, reported missing among civilians in Mariupol – this is “about five thousand people”. According to him, during the military special operation of Russia, about 250 thousand people left the Ukrainian city. He also mentioned that 60-70% of the housing stock was demolished, and about 10% of the buildings were completely demolished.

Ukraine and Russia regularly coordinate humanitarian corridors through which civilians are evacuated to Kiev or areas controlled by the Donbass republics and the Russian Federation.
