Former filmmaker Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of rape and sexual assault three times at a trial this Monday in Los Angeles, California. Weinstein was found guilty of rape, forced oral sex and another sexual assault on a woman, US media reported.
70 year old producer acquitted of one of seven charges against him and three others, including the case of Jennifer Siebel Newsom, wife of California Governor Gavin Newsom, they did not decide unanimously by a jury of eight men and four women. The jury claimed that Siebel and another woman were unable to reach a verdict on the rape and sexual assault charges, so a false trial was declared on those charges.
In 2020, Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison at a trial in New York and now faces up to 24 years in prison, though lawyers and the defense have not commented on the final verdict. The former Hollywood giant was prosecuted seven times based on the allegations of four women allegedly sexually assaulted in Los Angeles hotel rooms between 2005 and 2013.
Weinstein’s conviction in New York in 2020 marked a turning point. Big win for the #MeToo movement in the feminist struggle against sexual harassment and assault. Weinstein is serving his detention at the Twin Towers prison in downtown Los Angeles after extradition from New York in July 2021.
Total, More than 80 women accused former producer of sexual offenses and inappropriate behavior.
