Ukraine tries to restore electricity after massive Russian bombings
Earlier this Saturday, Ukraine is trying to restore electricity, which was cut off after a “huge” wave of Russian bombing of its infrastructure, which the European Union denounces as a war crime. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that Kyiv and 14 other regions were affected by water or electricity cuts, but they are already working to resolve it. “Our engineers and repair teams went to work during the weather alert and are doing everything possible to restore electricity generation and supply. It takes time. But it will be done.” According to the Ukrainian military, a total of 74 missiles were fired, mainly cruise missiles, of which 60 were shot down by the anti-aircraft defense. After a series of military defeats in southern and northeastern Ukraine, Russia regularly bombed the country’s power plants, leaving millions without electricity and heating in a freezing winter. The national electricity operator Ukrenergo warned on Facebook that with this new wave of Russian bombings, “it will take longer to restore electricity”. Temperatures in Kiev on Friday ranged from 1 to 3 degrees below zero.
