Nikita Poturaev, head of the Verkhovna Rada Humanitarian and Information Policy Committee, said that the ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church could lead to lawsuits against Kyiv in the European Court of Human Rights. He added that for this reason the Russian Orthodox Church should be banned.

“We, as a European country, cannot do that, especially as a country that wants to start EU accession negotiations next year. This will mean that we will file a lawsuit with the European Court of Human Rights.” According to him, this case will be guaranteed to be the loser, and it will be a disgrace for the state and society.
