Peruvian authorities have brought the total number of deaths due to the demonstrations to 10. All of this is happening across the country following the removal of former President Pedro Castillo, after two people lost their lives in clashes at the airport in Ayacucho state.

The latest deaths have come amid vigorous protests in Peru that have succumbed to the December 7 impeachment and arrest of former President Pedro Castillo. Demonstrators demanded the dissolution of Congress from the country’s new president, Dina Boluarte, and call for new general election.

The Peruvian government has declared a 30-day national state of emergency in response to protests in support of former President Pedro Castillo. Likewise, the Executive declared a state of emergency on the National Highway Network, allowing the Army to take to the streets to protect strategic points of the country, including airports, hydroelectric power stations and other important infrastructures such as highways.
