The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first drug (Bexacat) for diabetes control in cats. This has been reported area To manage.

A medicine called Bexacat (bexagliflozin tablets) is for cats that need insulin therapy. The drug itself is not insulin. Bexagliflozin interferes with sodium glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) activity. The drug prevents the reabsorption of sugar from the kidneys into the blood.

The drug is only recommended for certain cats that need to be examined for kidney, liver and pancreatic diseases as well as ketoacidosis. Bexagliflozin should also not be used in cats treated with or previously treated with insulin. The drug should not be given to cats who are malnourished, dehydrated or weakened at the time of diagnosis.

The FDA’s decision is based on two studies that showed the drug to be more than 80% effective in improving blood sugar control in diabetic cats.
