Researchers from Flinders University and the University of Adelaide in Australia discovered that another artery arises in people’s forearms. work of scientists published In the Journal of Anatomy.

This artery occurs in humans in the womb – it feeds the growing arms of the fetus. It usually dies eight weeks after birth and the other two arteries begin to function. However, it continues for some people.

Scientists decided to calculate the percentage of such people. To do this, they examined 80 bodies of Europeans born in the first half of the 20th century, donated to science. They also studied 19th-century reports of the presence of this artery in humans.

As it turned out, at the end of the 19th century it was preserved in about 10% of the population, and in the 20th century it was found in 30% already. Today, the middle artery can be found in 35% of people. Scientists predict that by 2100 most of humanity will have this extra blood vessel.

The researchers say preserving the extra artery is a sign of continued human evolution.
