Doctors from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College reported a rare case of ischemic stroke in a man after a bee sting. The report was published in the journal penny.

Bee venom contains proteins, amines and enzymes. Typically, a bee sting causes an allergic reaction, ranging from mild hives to severe anaphylaxis that resolves within 24 hours.

A 49-year-old male farmer was stung by a honeybee while working in the field. He developed local swelling in the arm and palm at the bite site, where he was taken to the hospital. Antihistamines and steroids were prescribed, but convulsions occurred 5-6 hours after the bite. Antiepileptic drugs were injected and the MRI showed signs of paralysis.

After starting treatment, the man began to recover rapidly and was able to return to normal life six months later. An extremely rare case can be associated with a strong inflammatory reaction of the male body to the components of bee venom.
