The Coordinating Union of Russian Citizens’ Organizations (KSORS) criticized the renaming of Akademik Sakharov Street in the center of Sukhum and said that the Russian trace in the republic was erased in this way. This has been reported DEA Novosti.

“Sakharov is a world-famous man who is respected in Russia and in the West. He supported the people of Abkhazia by calling Georgia a small empire… How many more important people supported independent Abkhazia? No one. And Scottish Street was chosen in response to the erection of a monument to the soldiers of Abkhazia, who gave life to the freedom and independence of the Fatherland, in the city of Kilmarnock. “No one in the West, except the Scots, dared to erect a monument in honor of the soldiers of Abkhazia and preserve the status of a sister city with Sukhum.”

They emphasized that erasing the historical, cultural and Russian traces in Abkhazia is unacceptable given the fraternal nature of the two states.

Adgur Ardzinba, former leader of the Abkhaz opposition said “Gazeta.ru” said that Abkhazia does not plan to join the Russian Federation, but the republic should strive to join the Union State of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
