Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, March 31, signed a decree on monthly cash payments to families with children from eight to 17 years old. The document was published in the official gazette portal legal information.

“In order to increase the income of families with children, I decide to establish a monthly cash payment for a child from 8 to 17 years old, which, from April 1, 2022, is provided to permanent residents of the Russian Federation in need of social support. The territory of the Russian Federation, in the manner and under the conditions provided for by the legislation of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, ”the text states.

The money will be given to families whose average per capita income does not exceed the subsistence level in the region.

In this case, the payment amount will be 50% of the subsistence minimum for children. If the average per capita income does not exceed the subsistence minimum, even when this payment is taken into account, the amount of payment increases, reports RBC.

Payments will be calculated from 1 April and will start accruing from 1 May.

What benefits do families with children currently receive?

The signed decree completes a set of measures to support families in the Russian Federation. Families whose income does not exceed two living wages can claim a monthly allowance for their children up to the age of three. The allowance for the first child is paid from the federal budget, for the second – from the capital.

Families with children between the ages of 3 and 7 who do not reach the average subsistence limit per capita are also entitled to receive assistance from the state at the rate of 50%, 75% and even 100% of the minimum subsistence amount. Separately, the Ministry of Labor of the Russian Federation emphasized that such a payment can be received for each child.

In addition, pregnant women whose income does not exceed the subsistence level can receive an allowance of 50% of the value in the region.
