President of Faconauto, Gerard Perezhas decided not to compete with Antonio Garamendi for the CEOE presidency. This was announced in a statement Wednesday, which he rejected after “scrupulously, seriously and honestly considering his candidacy”. With little support to compete for the Basque businessman as a formidable rival, Pérez is therefore stepping back and not making his candidacy official. Garamendi, the current president of the employers’ association, is currently the only official candidate to contest the presidency of the business organization, whose assembly will be voted on in the next vote. 23 November.

A few weeks ago, Pérez closed that door himself this Wednesday, despite publicly announcing that he was “seriously” exploring the possibility of running into the election race to head the CEOE. Although there are still sectors that are not satisfied with his leadership and decisions, Garamendi quickly managed to gain the open support of the main collaborations that make up the CEOE.

The labor reform, endorsed by Garamendi and his closest collaborator team, was not heavily supported by organizations such as the following. workforce development and Madrid employers CEIM, each having a vice president as co-founders. Nor by the bosses of car manufacturers, Anfacand agriculture, Asaja. They cite critical sectors, the over-president Garamendi, who has had little consultation with the CEOE’s leadership. However, this internal discontent is not materializing in alternative candidates for now.

Pérez, who was thrown out of the car, is another name to be referred to as the president of Cepyme, Gerardo Cuerva. Not because he publicly raised this possibility, but in fact, the Cepyme leadership showed their support for Garamendi the day he made his candidacy official. But because of the claims of some critical voices to organize an alternative attrition nomination around him. One thing that is difficult to give the support the current president receives, not clearly for the purpose of winning, is to create discontent within the organization.

At this time, however, Cuerva has not made any public signs that she wants to participate in the employer’s election. Next November 8 is the deadline for submission of nominations and if none is made official, Antonio Garamendi will be confirmed as CEO for another four years.
