A U.S. Justice sentenced Chauvin in July to more than 20 years in prison for violating George Floyd’s federal civil rights, after the former agent himself pleaded guilty to these federal charges.
Chauvin is currently serving a 22-and-a-half-year sentence. after being convicted of second and third degree manslaughter as well as second degree manslaughter for the death of Floyd, whom he had strangled to death.
Floyd was arrested on the way out of a workplace in May 2020 for using a fake bill to pay for a pack of cigarettes. He was handcuffed and placed on his chest during the surgery.
